Board Certified Family Lawyer, Joe NewberryAustin Divorce Lawyer, Joe Newberry was born and raised in Austin, Texas. He attended St. Andrews School from first through eighth grade and then went to Austin High School. After graduating from Austin High, Joe attended the University of Arizona in Tucson and double majored in Finance and Economics in four years. Following college, Joe worked in the Fixed Assets Department of Southwest Airlines. It was during this time that he decided he wanted to pursue a degree in law.

In August 2004, Joe entered Law School at Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, and gained invaluable experience in the Tarrant County District Clerk’s Office. Joe graduated in May 2007 from Texas Wesleyan, also studying at the University of Texas School of Law as a visiting student. Joe moved to Southern California immediately following law school and kicked off his law career by joining a personal injury firm in Newport Beach, California, that specialized in personal injury, medical malpractice, and products liability litigation. The majority of his cases were heard in Orange County, San Diego County, and Los Angeles County. During his time in California he passed both the California and Texas bar exams and became licensed to practice in federal court in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

Experience Matters

Joe is a Board Certified Family Lawyer with over 13 years in the field of law, and he has spent twelve of those years as a family lawyer in Central Texas. As a Board Certified Family Lawyer, Joe has litigated hundreds of cases including child custody disputes, divorces, child support cases, grandparent’s rights, modifications, and enforcements. Joe passed the Texas Board of Legal Specialization Family Law Exam and is Board Certified in Family Law. Joe’s background in finance and economics has helped him achieve success for his clients in complex property cases. Joe’s knowledge of business practices, taxes, and analysis of property law has proved valuable in family law cases involving complex property division. His financial expertise serves his clients well when it comes to the money matters of divorce.

Joe’s experience in the courtroom allows him to effectively give legal advice while trying to settle cases out of court. This has led Joe to successfully mediate over eighty cases in the last ten years. Although not every case settles in mediation, Joe’s experience in the courtroom has allowed him to give his clients excellent advice on whether or not to settle out of court.

Joe was made partner at the firm in August of 2012. Joe is a third generation Austinite with deep family roots in the city. Joe has been married to his wife, Kelley, for twelve years and they have a seven year old son, Hayes, and a five year old daughter, Kendall. When he is not working, Joe enjoys spending his days attending Austin High football games, running on the hike and bike trail, enjoying time with his family, and trying new restaurants in Austin.
